Spinal Stenosis can also be a cause of sciatica because of the narrowing of the spinal canal, where the spinal cord runs, and compression of the spinal cord. This can be caused by herniated discs, bone spurs and vertebral dislocation, which then pinches the spinal cord that travels to the sciatic nerve and irritating it with friction.

In fact the majority of sciatica is simply fixed. Although disc injuries cause sciatica they are not the majority of sciatica cases. They only attribute approximately 10% of sciatica problems.

As the initial sciatica pain sets in, anti-inflammatory medicines may be taken to manage and decrease the pain. Possible medications are ibuprofen drugs such as Nuprin, Motrin, and Advil. COX-2 inhibitors are another option to aid in reducing the pain.
